Job Title:
Quantity Serveyor
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join our team, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying within an E&I construction environment. This role is responsible for the full quantity surveying function, including tendering and estimating, contract negotiation and administration, as well as project financial and cost management, including procurement.
The successful candidate will play a key role in securing new business opportunities and contributing to company growth through successful tender submissions and profitable project execution. You will be responsible for preparing accurate estimates, analysing project data, and providing cost insights that support sound business decisions.
Key Requirements:
Tendering and Estimating
- Conduct risk assessments by identifying project risks, opportunities, and constraints
- Estimate materials, labour, equipment, and overall project costs
- Calculate labour requirements based on productivity rates and industry norms
- Prepare and compile tender documentation, including technical and commercial submissions
- Ensure compliance with submission deadlines and follow up with clients where required
Pricing Strategy
- Develop competitive pricing strategies aligned with market conditions
- Analyse competitor pricing while ensuring profitability
Contract Administration
- Manage and negotiate contracts (NEC3, FIDIC, GCC, etc.)
- Handle financial evaluations during tender adjudication
- Compile and manage contractual notices (early warnings, compensation events, etc.)
- Ensure all contractual terms (payment schedules, warranties, penalties) align with company policies
Site Support
- Conduct on-site measurements of quantities and materials
- Prepare progress claims and certificates
- Compile project close-out reports, including final measurements and contractual documentation
Financial Control and Cashflow Management
- Prepare budget forecasts and monitor project cash flow
- Implement cost control measures and expenditure tracking
- Perform cost engineering to ensure project profitability
Continuous Improvement
- Continuously review and improve tendering, estimating, and contract administration processes
- Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, accuracy, and overall business profitability
Qualification / Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Registration with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is highly advantageous
- In-depth knowledge of E&I construction methodologies and project management principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid understanding of research methods, data analysis, and estimation techniques
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to track design and construction changes and adjust budgets accordingly
- Ability to monitor project performance and ensure contractual compliance
- Experience in mining, processing plants, and infrastructure sectors
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work in demanding environments
- Strong business acumen
- Team player with the ability to also work independently
