Operations and Maintenance Manager

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking a Solar O&M Manager responsible for ensuring the reliable performance, uptime, and efficiency of all installed solar PV, generator, and cube systems under the company’s management. The role involves monitoring system performance through digital platforms, planning and coordinating maintenance activities, and responding promptly to faults and alarms. The Solar O&M Manager will also be responsible for reporting, data analysis, and driving continuous improvement in overall system operations.

Key Responsibilities:

System Monitoring & Performance Management

Monitor system performance daily via monitoring platforms (e.g., Sungrow, Victron, Atess, Solis, Sunsynk, DSE Webnet).
Identify underperformance, faults, and alarms, and initiate corrective actions.
Analyse system data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and potential risks.
Maintain accurate records of system performance, interventions, and resolutions.

Operations & Maintenance Coordination

Plan, schedule, and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
Ensure timely resolution of technical issues to maximise system uptime.
Coordinate with field technicians, subcontractors, and suppliers for repairs, spare parts, and RMAs, including tracking and follow-up.
Implement best practices to ensure system safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Reporting & Documentation

Prepare regular performance reports for management and clients in line with SLA requirements.
Document all incidents, faults, and corrective actions via the energy fault reporting system.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs), including uptime, yield, and response times.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with manufacturer warranties, O&M contracts, and relevant industry standards.
Enforce health and safety protocols during all maintenance and repair activities.
Stay up to date with regulatory changes and technical standards.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding O&M-related matters.
Provide technical insights and recommendations for system optimisation.
Support the sales team with technical input for O&M solutions and offerings.

Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy, or equivalent (preferred).
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in solar PV operations, maintenance, or technical management. Strong understanding of solar PV systems, inverters, batteries, generators and monitoring software.

Key Responsibilities and Industry Experience:

Proposal Delivery

Ensure timely delivery of project proposals.
Monitor average proposal turnaround time.
Maintain a high on-time delivery rate (proposals submitted on or before deadlines).

Design & Implementation

Design and optimise solar systems, including photovoltaic (PV) and generator technologies.
Manage and reduce design review cycle times.
Compile and populate project Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
Conduct design compliance checks and quality assurance inspections.

Grid Studies

Review technical studies prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with grid code requirements.

Profitability

Monitor and improve project profit margins.
Control project costs by minimising variances between estimated and actual expenses.

Communication & Reporting

Maintain high partner satisfaction through effective communication and reporting.
Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, including project managers, contractors, and clients.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting in line with set schedules.

Technical Expertise

Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders.
Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
Continuously optimise system performance and efficiency.

Industry Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar project development, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
Proven experience in utility-scale solar projects is highly advantageous.
Experience in agricultural solar (hybrid/off-grid systems) is beneficial.
Experience in commercial and industrial (C&I) solar (hybrid/off-grid systems) is beneficial.

Technical Expertise

Hands-on experience with solar energy systems, including design, installation, and performance analysis.
Proficiency in energy modelling software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including circuits, power systems, and control systems.

Project Management

Experience managing projects across planning, execution, and monitoring phases.
Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate teams.

Software & Tools

Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, as well as PVsyst, HOMER, and Helioscope.
Experience working with SCADA systems, including development and software integration.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mech/Elec) or similar.
