Maintenance Manager 

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking an Asset and Maintenance Manager to oversee asset management, infrastructure maintenance, and maintenance operations across smelter facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing maintenance strategies and projects to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and longevity of all infrastructure and process equipment.

Responsibilities & Skills:
  • Lead and manage the plant maintenance team to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant machinery and equipment.
  • Develop and implement proactive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance employees through performance management and individual development plans.
  • Maximise plant availability by achieving or exceeding agreed Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets.
  • Improve plant efficiency and productivity by optimising machine performance and ensuring adherence to maintenance processes.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify potential failures, and implement corrective actions based on operational feedback.
  • Manage and control maintenance and project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying improvement opportunities, implementing solutions, and measuring results.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee maintenance, refurbishment, and engineering projects from planning through installation, commissioning, and completion.
  • Prepare and present management reports, including maintenance performance, incidents, project progress, costs, and training updates.
  • Use data analysis to identify trends, solve operational problems, and improve maintenance performance.
  • Develop and manage maintenance plans and schedules to ensure efficient resource utilisation.
  • Apply PLC/SCADA knowledge to support maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimisation.
  • Ensure sound project governance throughout engineering and maintenance projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP.
  • PLC/SCADA programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Planning and scheduling expertise.
  • Budgeting and financial management.
  • Engineering project governance, installation, and commissioning.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Completed Matric (Grade 12).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering with Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years' relevant experience in Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) will be advantageous.
  • Proven experience in maintenance management, including planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance, as well as Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM).
  • Strong leadership experience with a proven ability to manage teams, develop staff, oversee contractor performance, and work effectively with organised labour in accordance with SHEQ standards.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, Labour Relations Act (LRA), and machinery and plant compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and strict access control requirements within precious metals refining or similar high-risk environments.
