Job Title:
Renewable Energy Engineer
Job Purpose:
The Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of renewable solar and generator projects, ensuring compliance with all technical, safety, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves conducting site inspections during manufacturing, construction, and commissioning to ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with the approved design.
Key Responsibilities and Industry Experience:
Proposal Delivery
- Ensure timely delivery of project proposals.
- Monitor average proposal turnaround time.
- Maintain a high on-time delivery rate (proposals submitted on or before deadlines).
Design & Implementation
- Design and optimise solar systems, including photovoltaic (PV) and generator technologies.
- Manage and reduce design review cycle times.
- Compile and populate project Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
- Conduct design compliance checks and quality assurance inspections.
Grid Studies
- Review technical studies prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with grid code requirements.
Profitability
- Monitor and improve project profit margins.
- Control project costs by minimising variances between estimated and actual expenses.
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain high partner satisfaction through effective communication and reporting.
- Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, including project managers, contractors, and clients.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in line with set schedules.
Technical Expertise
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Continuously optimise system performance and efficiency.
Industry Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar project development, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Proven experience in utility-scale solar projects is highly advantageous.
- Experience in agricultural solar (hybrid/off-grid systems) is beneficial.
- Experience in commercial and industrial (C&I) solar (hybrid/off-grid systems) is beneficial.
Technical Expertise
- Hands-on experience with solar energy systems, including design, installation, and performance analysis.
- Proficiency in energy modelling software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including circuits, power systems, and control systems.
Project Management
- Experience managing projects across planning, execution, and monitoring phases.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate teams.
Software & Tools
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, as well as PVsyst, HOMER, and Helioscope.
- Experience working with SCADA systems, including development and software integration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mech/Elec) or similar.
