Job Title:
Business Intelligence Development Manager
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to manage and develop a central data source for Business Intelligence across Merchants .
Responsibilities:
1. Systems & Platform Development
- Plans and develops a single, automated platform for Business Intelligence across Merchants
- Analyses business requirements to ensure the database platform is stable, functional, and available
- Equips all operations to effectively use the system and interpret the information provided
- Documents all system processes, policies, and procedures related to databases and statistical information to ensure standardisation across Merchants
2. Reporting
- Develops and automates reports that reflect Merchants’ organisational performance
- Creates reports that support effective decision-making across Merchants
- Facilitates information analysis and report development for business units
- Identifies best practices in report design and automation
- Researches appropriate business intelligence tools for Merchants
- Provides business intelligence support to enable business improvement
3. People Management
Leadership
- Leads by example and lives the organisational values
- Ensures the department is fully equipped to handle workload and distributes work effectively
- Coaches team members to understand the consequences of errors
- Creates a collaborative environment that fosters teamwork and cooperation
- Builds awareness of Merchants’ strategic objectives and ensures alignment within the department
- Communicates effectively and builds strong working relationships
- Ensures consistent compliance with company policies, procedures, corporate governance, and relevant legislation
Attraction & Selection
- Ensures appropriate staffing and takes action where required
- Identifies the need for new positions and makes recommendations to management and HR
- Selects and places candidates in line with agreed recruitment and selection processes
Retention
- Develops and empowers employees, recognising and rewarding value-added performance
Training & Development
- Continuously upskills and motivates staff through leadership, mentoring, coaching, and performance improvement
- Implements individual development plans and monitors training needs
Career Pathing & Succession Planning
- Identifies, manages, and develops talent
Performance Management

- Sets quantitative and qualitative performance objectives for direct reports
- Ensures individual performance objectives are aligned, documented, and reviewed regularly
- Conducts bi-annual performance reviews and addresses underperformance with corrective action where required
Qualification and Experience:
- B.Comm in Information Systems or BSc in Computer Science
- 5–8 years’ experience in Business Intelligence design
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in data warehousing and automation
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with SQL
