This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing the enterprise-wide risk management function, ensuring that all strategic, operational, financial, regulatory, clinical, health and safety, reputational, and governance risks are effectively identified, assessed, and managed.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Risk will play a critical role in providing assurance and recommendations to the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) while fostering a strong risk-aware culture across the organisation.

Responsibilities

As the Head of Risk, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of the organisation’s risk management framework.
  • Maintaining and updating the organisational risk register to ensure risks are accurately documented and monitored.
  • Advising on risk mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Providing regular risk reporting and assurance to the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) and the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Embedding a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management across all departments and facilities.
  • Supporting the Portfolio Team and ARC in identifying and addressing emerging risks.
  • Ensuring alignment of risk management practices with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in risk management, compliance, internal audit, governance, assurance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 to 5 years’ experience in a senior management or leadership role.
  • Proven experience reporting directly to a CEO, Executive Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, or Board.
  • A strong understanding of risk management principles and frameworks.
  • Experience in healthcare, aged care, retirement services, non-profit, property, insurance, or other regulated service environments (highly advantageous).

Day-to-Day

On a typical day, you will:

  • Collaborate with senior leaders to identify and assess organisational risks.
  • Prepare and present risk reports and recommendations to the CEO and ARC.
  • Monitor the implementation of risk mitigation strategies and ensure their effectiveness.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits across various departments and facilities.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on risk management practices.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and risk awareness throughout the organisation.
