Job Title:
Professional Structural Engineer
Responsibilities:
- Plan, design and administer engineering and building projects from inception to completion.
- Prepare engineering calculations and technical documentation.
- Prepare project and technical specifications.
- Work independently while also leading an internal project team of designers and draughtspersons.
- Provide input into engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
- Assist with managing and quality-checking project deliverables.
- Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior and intermediate engineers.
- Contribute to the ongoing professional development of unregistered technical staff.
- Prepare tender documentation.
- Prepare project reports, including:
- Project inception reports.
- Concept and viability reports.
- Design reports.
- Tender evaluation reports.
- Progress reports.
- Financial reports.
- Project close-out reports.
- Conduct structural condition assessments and prepare detailed reports.
- Manage the day-to-day contract administration and structural works for building and engineering projects.
- Handle technical queries and facilitate effective resolutions.
- Lead site and technical meetings, including preparing and recording meeting minutes.
- Maintain regular communication with professionals, contractors and clients.
- Assist with technical query and dispute resolution in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with project safety and environmental matters during construction.
- Perform general office and project-related administrative duties.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Structural Engineering.
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
- Minimum 2 years’ verifiable post-registration experience in the planning, design and contract administration of building and engineering projects from inception to completion.
- Strong background in the design of the following will be advantageous:
- Bulk water reservoirs.
- Water treatment works.
- Stormwater management infrastructure.
- Water-retaining structures.
- Reinforced concrete-framed structures.
- Steel-framed structures.
- Experience managing design teams to complete tasks and deliver high-quality outputs, including design calculations, drawings, schedules and reports, within required timeframes and budgets.
- Strong understanding of engineering design codes and technical standards.
- Proficiency in MasterSeries or Prokon, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
- Experience using Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, particularly Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
