Sales Representative Public Sector

Job Purpose: 

Our client is seeking a dynamic Sales Representative to join their sales team in the public utilities metering sector. This role focuses on selling water and electricity metering solutions to public utility customers, with a strong emphasis on municipalities. The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg and will report directly to the Commercial Manager: Public Sector. The purpose of this role is to drive new business growth while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients within the public utility sector, particularly district and local municipalities. The Sales Representative will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, presenting tailored solutions, closing sales, and supporting client onboarding in collaboration with internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the company’s products and services within the public utilities sector
  • Manage the full sales cycle from initial engagement through to closing
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, particularly within municipalities
  • Conduct prospecting, cold calling, networking, and lead generation activities
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and tailored proposals to prospective clients
  • Achieve and exceed sales targets and revenue objectives
  • Build, maintain, and grow relationships with existing clients and key stakeholders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction throughout the sales and onboarding process
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure accurate solution scoping and successful delivery
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to inform sales strategies
  • Provide feedback on product offerings and identify market gaps to support innovation and development
  • Maintain accurate sales records, CRM updates, pipeline forecasts, and activity reports

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • A tertiary qualification in Sales, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ proven sales experience within the public sector
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and influence customer expectations
  • Proven track record of consistently achieving sales targets
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
