Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer or Technologist to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out electrical engineering and design-related functions while contributing to the successful delivery of projects. Applicants should possess a relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, along with the necessary industry experience, strong technical and problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct condition assessments of electrical installations and prepare detailed assessment reports.
- Plan, design, and administer engineering and building services contracts from inception to completion.
- Compile and present project reports throughout all project phases, including inception, concept and viability, design, tender evaluation, progress, financial status, and close-out.
- Manage the day-to-day administration of active projects.
- Design electrical building services, including:
- Lighting systems
- Small power installations
- Site reticulation
- Fire detection systems
- ICT infrastructure
- Electronic security systems
- Backup power solutions
- Solar PV systems
- Design electrical components for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pump stations, rising mains, and pipeline systems.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and technical specifications.
- Administer electrical engineering contracts and perform the duties of the Engineer’s Representative in accordance with contract requirements.
- Provide construction oversight and quality control throughout project execution.
- Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
- Address technical queries, resolve site-related issues, and facilitate technical and site meetings, including the preparation of meeting minutes.
- Review contractors’ Quality Control Plans and Construction Method Statements to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare payment valuations and conduct measurement of electrical installations.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with the resolution of technical issues in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
- Support project safety, health, environmental, and quality compliance during the construction phase.
- Perform general office administration and project-related administrative duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- B.Eng, B.Sc (Eng), or B.Tech Engineering Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years post-registration experience for ECSA-registered candidates.
- Unregistered candidates with a minimum of ten (10) years post-qualification experience will be considered, provided they are eligible for ECSA registration within two years.
- Proven experience in the design and management of building services and engineering projects.
- Experience with building services projects, including:
- Lighting systems
- Small power installations
- Site reticulation
- Fire detection systems
- ICT infrastructure
- Electronic security systems
- Backup power solutions
- Solar PV systems
- Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, such as Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Experience with Revit MEP will be advantageous.
